Epiphone LP Jr.

I bought this guitar in 1998 at Guitar Center for $169. I wanted a P-90 equipped guitar, but I didn't have a lot of extra $$$ to put into one at the time. I tried out several examples of this guitar and settled on this one since it was the best out of the ones they had on the wall.

Make no mistake, this is a very low end, cheap, guitar. It needed some adjustments to get it into playing shape. I had to make some adjustments to the nut to take care of some binding there and adjust the intonation at the bridge as best I could with the vintage style LP Jr. bridge. The other major adjustment I made was to do a fret level and polish. Several of the frets also needed to be re-glued. After this work, the guitar turned out to be very playable.

The P-90 is what really makes this guitar. The upper mid-range bite lets it stand out in the mix nicely. The pickup also is very sensitive to pick dynamics and captures artificial harmonics very well. To get mellower tones out of it, I use my Snarling Dogs Very-Tone pedal.

The other modifications I was thinking about making to this guitar were to change out the covered gear tuners with sealed tuners and perhaps put a compensated nut on it to improve the intonation.

When I first bought my Agile LP Jr DC this guitar didn't receive as much playing time. However, I've found that I prefer its tone to the Agile's for some reason. Maybe this guitar got a little extra 'mojo' at the factory.
