Hey Frank...enjoy your page. I'm a 50 year old novice guitar player and life long Beatles fan. I play an Epi Casino and hope to one day make the leap to a Country Gentleman or Duo Jet...in the meantime however I happen to spot an Electromatic Silver Sparkle just like yours in my local music store. Had to have it so I made an impulse purchase and at $150 I figured worst case I'd have a neat wall hanger. It was great reading your summary of this guitar and for the money it really is a great find. I put new strings on it and it really sounds pretty good. Was curious if you remember the original purchase price?
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul
$150 is a great price for the guitar if it's in good shape. If it's like mine it should play good and sound good. I've seen them go for $250 or more on eBay but that's highly variable.
If I remember correctly I paid $349 for it when it was on closeout sale at Guitar Center. It was regularly $399.
If you run across any more of those late 90's Gretsch Electromatic or Synchromatic guitars I'd recommend snapping them up if the price is right. They were very nice guitars and probably, along with DeArmond, were responsible for starting the higher quality low price guitar trend.

Dude. I have this same guitar and the neck is broken. I was wondering if you knew of any place I could get a replacement, or a guitar it could be compatable with.

Thanks for such a well-written review. I just saw this guitar yesterday for $239. I thought it was great looking (though I really wished it had the neo-classic fret markers).
I seriously thought about picking it up, but after plugging it in I discovered the neck pickup was cutting out. I gave it to the guy at the shop who said he'd look into it. I may go back and check it out again if they get the pickup working.

First of all thanks for publishing some information on this guitar. I just purchased one used (premium condition) and there is very little information on this guitar so your posting was most helpful. However, with that being said, while mine is like yours in almost everyway (gold flake) black back, controls, etc. Mine states "Synchromatic" on the top of the tuning head.
With that exception, it does appear to be the same guitar. Do you know of any differences between the "Synchromatic" and the "Electromatic"?
I'll just sit back and see if anyone can add to my mystery.
Thanks
