Backing Jam Tracks

These backing / jam tracks were created using Sonic Foundry's ACID. The drums, synth, bass and other sounds are done with royality free samples that others have created. Most of the guitar are also samples although I did add my own rhythm playing to some of them.

These tracks are ones I've put together to jam along with myself. For the most part, I've left room in the mix for you to jam along with your own lead track. Let me know what you think and what you would like in a jam track. While some of these are complete songs others are loops that you can repeat until your hands get tired. For playing the loops, I suggest the freeware recording program Audacity since it will play the looped tracks very smoothly.

This track kind of came to me while I was noodling on some low tuned riffs on an acoustic guitar. I added drum, bass, and some sound effects to it and that's what I ended up with. It's in C. It's one you can have fun with adding a simple lead line on top of the rhythm.

Morning Meditation

This new age-ish track is a simple C-G minor vamp with atmospheric synth and backing vocals. Noodling around in C and G minor penatonic works well but try to avoid making it too bluesy to get it to fit the song better. There is a bridge section that kicks in at about 1:10 that's does E-F-G-A-E-F-A-G and then the song segues back to the original vamp. It fades out at about 2:40. (Thanks to Frets99 at Harmony-Central for the bridge idea.) This track was used as one of the tracks for Harmony Central Electric Guitar Forum Jam #41. Go there and listen to several people's takes on this backing track.

Noble Clouds

This track is a fast paced rock-pop song primarily in A, D progression with A, E on the bridges. I put this song together in 2004 and forgot about it for about 3 years. I'm not sure how 'jam-able' it is but give it a try and let me know.

Floating In The Ether

This track has a floating feeling to it (hence the name) and should be suitable for metal-ish riffs or a jazzy lead complementary to the underlying rhythm. The chord progression is section with A, C, E, C, A, C, A, followed by a chorus with A, E. After the second time through there is a bridge with a D, A progression. The song fades out at the end.

This is a jazzy loop with a vamp in A with a latin-ish beat and synth strings in the background. You start and finish the loop, which runs about a minute and you get to comp along to a jazz flute solo in the middle. You can imagine yourself playing along with a famous 70's San Diego TV Anchorman.
